A sixth straight win for Pinar Karsiyaka in the season opener of the Basketball Champions League

After a slow start, Pinar Karsiyaka was favored by experienced stars making plays to beat Filou Oostende, 94-77, on Tuesday.

Well-traveled veteran Errick McCollum produced a game-high 22 points with 6/12 field goals in Gameday 1 of the Basketball Champions League Regular Season.

Another experienced asset for Ufuk Sarica, Darrun Hilliard went for 17 points. At 22, former Duke standout Vernon Carey Jr. added 18 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, three assists, and two steals building up a game-high efficiency rating of 29.

The Belgium champions, guided by Dario Gjergja, settled with Damien Jefferson’s 17 points on the losing end of the meeting in Izmir’s Karsiyaka Arena. Matthias Tass followed with 14 points.

Getting the job done for the sixth time in as many showings in the opening week of the BCL, Karsiyaka jumped to 1-0 in Group E. Down to 0-1, the lasting original of FIBA Europe’s top-tier club continental competition missed both Haris Bratanovic and Servaas Buysschaert at the top of the eighth campaign.
