A new combo guard for Hapoel Holon.

Deondre Burns joined the Israeli side with a contract for the remainder of the 2023-24 season, the team announced on Tuesday.

“Deondre will help us in both guard positions. He is an excellent guard, committed to the team. He can play with the ball and produce and also play away from the ball and impact the game,” head coach Amit Sherf described his new player.

Burns, 26, returns to the Basketball Champions League with experience from the Qualification Rounds before the Regular Season over the two previous seasons.

“His character suits the team. I am sure he will connect quickly and will be able to immediately contribute to our team in the important and approaching Play-In series,” added Sherf referring to the best-of-three series opposite Filou Oostende.

Settling for the second seed in a four-way tie at 3-3 across Group F of the Regular Season, Holon moved into the Play-Ins. Potentially eliminating the Belgium champions would place them in Group L of the Round of 16 alongside AEK Betsson, UCAM Murcia, and Le Mans or Promitheas.

After averaging 12.1 points, 4.5 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game in FIBA Europe Cup and 12.1 points, 3.1 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per contest in Germany’s easyCredit BBL with BG Gottingen, Burns teams up with Netanel Artzi, Drew Crawford, Shawn Dawson, C.J. Harris, Nick Johnson, Niv Misgav, Justin Smith, and Hans Vanwijn, among others.

Coming out of Oral Roberts in 2019, the Holon newcomer also played in Cyprus and Switzerland, before moving his talents to Germany.
