Rallying from a double-digit deficit, Lenovo Tenerife prevails after five extra minutes in Turkiye

The second player in Basketball Champions League history to reach 1,000 points combined the milestone with a huge win on Tuesday.

Giorgi Shermadini dropped 25 points for Lenovo Tenerife in the overtime win, 106-97, versus Pinar Karsiyaka in Izmir.

Following Vojtech Hruban, the Georgian center passed the 1,000-point mark in the second quarter. Besides making 9/12, he produced nine rebounds, five assists, and one block over 33 minutes in Gameday 1 of Group K.

Starting the Round of 16 with a win in Karsiyaka Arena, Txus Vidorreta’s side also enjoyed Kyle Guy producing all of his 25 points after the halftime break. Highlighting his Champions League debut, the Virginia product scored eight points in the extra minutes.

Besides tying the game twice in the last minute of regulation, Marcelinho Huertas posted a 17-point, 15-assist double-double. Fran Guerra and Jaime Fernandez were ruled out due to injury. Sasu Salin and Dusan Ristic were left out of the lineup as well.

Team team coached by Ufuk Sarica was undefeated across five home games in the 2023-24 edition of the BCL. The streak was snapped despite Vernon Carey Jr. improving his season-high to 27 points with 13/17 two-pointers. Errick McCollum went for 19 points, eight assists, four rebounds, two steals, and one block.

On Gameday 2, KSK meets Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem and the team located in the Canary Islands hosts Peristeri bwin. Both contests are scheduled for next Wednesday, following domestic affairs opposite Anadolu Efes and UCAM Murcia.
