Getting over Le Mans in the Play-Ins, Promitheas Patras started this year’s BCL Round of 16 with a Greek derby win over AEK. Traveling to Murcia to face Sito Alonso’s UCAM, however, they lost 90-81.

The former Barcelona center Marko Todorovic had a huge impact on his team’s success in the paint, going close to a double-double of 20 points (8/9 FG, 4/5 FT) and 8 rebounds. Dylan Ennis followed him scoring-wise with 20 points – 12 of them came from beyond the arc.

UCAM Murcia never lost control of the encounter, as Promitheas hadn’t spent a single minute ahead. Despite the Greek team trying to recover late in the game to keep their hopes high in head-to-head confrontation, the Spanish side also led by 22 points (68-46) late in the third.

Hunter Hale had a huge losing effort of 29 points. Entering the away encounter by leading the whole competition in free throws scored with 54, Anthony Cowan converted a perfect 9/9 at the charity stripe, adding 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists in the loss but shooting 4/12 from the field.

Despite being one of the teams that rely more upon three-point shooting since the start of the eighth Basketball Champions League season – they entered this game converting 40.0% of their points from deep -, Promitheas started rough but improved as time passed to a 9/24 from beyond the arc tonight.

With this victory, UCAM Murcia extended its winning streak at home in the Basketball Champions League Round of 16 to six games, considering last year’s 3-0 in Spain and the home game in the 2021-22 season.
