BELGRADE, Serbia – The last 72 hours have been pretty intense for Kyle Guy. On Friday, he dropped a BCL Final Four record-breaking 36 points against Peristeri to get Lenovo Tenerife to the Final; then, he came up short to Unicaja Malaga before meeting his new born son via Facetime.
His emotion – probably related to what was going to happen minutes after – could have been felt even in the mixed zone of Belgrade Arena, onlya few minutes after seeing Unicaja Malaga lifting the trophy.
When asked about what Lenovo Tenerife means to him, deep words came out. “I’m very grateful to be a part of this team, a lot of great guys, and a great organization. They saved my love for basketball this year, I owe everything we’ve been able to accomplish to them right now”, he said.
Being down my 15 points even at the beginning of the second half, the black-and-yellow team reduced the gap to one possession, and the former Virginia Cavaliers guard felt they could have done it. “The whole game, I trusted in our team, I had a lot of confidence in us and myself so I always knew we would come back and win. It didn’t end up happening, but we fought hard”, Kyle Guy reflected.
However, Unicaja Malaga came out on top completing a full circle arc redemption story, dragged by Basketball Champions League Final Four MVP Kendrick Perry. “He deserves everything, they’ve changed the format of the Top 5 five players for him because he was that good. Hats off to him, he deserves everything he has got”, he said about his countryman.
“Super tough opponent, great players, good coach. We’ve played them a lot it feels like, and they came out on top today”, he finally commented about the winners. Travelling to the United States to meet his newborn son, he finished the Basketball Champions League campaign as leading scorer of the competition with 21.5 points per game in his rookie season with Tenerife.
