Setting his sights on Filou Oostende being crowned champion in Belgium for the 13th year in a row, Sam Van Rossom confirmed his intention to call it a day and conclude his playing career.

Van Rossom, 37, reunited with his first professional team for the 2023-24 season. Averaging 7.3 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game illustrated his efforts in the Basketball Champions League. The team coached by Dario Gjergja went on the wrong end of a best-of-three Play-In series against Hapoel Holon and missed an opportunity to qualify for the Round of 16.

The veteran floor general added 7.8 points per contest in the BNXT League, a competition with teams from Belgium and the Netherlands, crowning annual champions for both countries.

Announcing his retirement at the end of the season, Van Rossom shared a letter to the supporters of Oostende via a video on Sunday.

“Dear fans,

The circle is complete…

What began here in 2005 as an adventure, ends in 2024 after an amazing journey.

Recalling memories and truly saying goodbye is for later.

First, it’s time for one last trip. Together with you! Let’s go for: The Unseen 13!”

A veteran of four appearances with the senior national team of Belgium in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017 installments of EuroBasket, his club path traveled abroad from Scavolini Pesaro and CAI Zaragoza to Valencia. A ten-year spell at the Taronges included an ACB title and two EuroCup championships.
