Unicaja has officially announced that Chris Duarte will not return for the 2026-27 season after reaching a mutual agreement with the club to terminate his contract.
According to the official statement, both parties resolved the terms of Duarte’s departure amicably, bringing an end to the Dominican guard’s one-year stint in Malaga.
Duarte joined Unicaja ahead of the 2025-26 campaign and made 43 appearances across the Liga Endesa, Basketball Champions League, Copa del Rey, Supercopa Endesa and FIBA Intercontinental Cup.
The Spanish club concluded its announcement by thanking Duarte for his professionalism and wishing him success in the next chapter of his career and personal life.
Following his departure, the 29-year-old guard will play in the EuroLeague with Baskonia, per Diario SUR. Duarte has reportedly reached an agreement with the Basque club for one season with an option for a second.
Selected 13th overall by the Indiana Pacers in the 2021 NBA Draft, presented by State Farm, he made an immediate impact in the league. The Dominican guard averaged 13.1 points per game and earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors in 2022. However, lingering ankle injuries and changing roster dynamics limited his development and opportunities over the following season, prompting a trade.
Duarte joined the Sacramento Kings for the 2023–24 season, playing a significantly reduced bench role. He was later acquired by the Chicago Bulls, appearing in only 17 total games before being waived in February 2025. Across 177 NBA appearances, he averaged 7.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists.
