We will continue to enjoy the magic of one of the best players in the history of Spanish basketball.
Joventut Badalona confirmed on July 30th that Ricky Rubio, a legend of the court, will remain with the team for another season.
The point guard from El Masnou, after his time in the NBA and his stint with Barça, returned to the club where he began his career and will continue wearing the green and black jersey for the coming months.
At 35 years old, Ricky will remain the leader of a team that continues to strengthen its roster to establish itself among the best in Spain.
Under the guidance of coach Dani Miret, Ricky has rediscovered his form on the court, leading a Joventut team that narrowly missed out on the Final Four of the last Basketball Champions League and reached the ACB semifinals after defeating Baskonia in the recent playoffs.
Rubio’s legend started at a very early age.
He made history on October 15, 2005, by debuting in the Spanish top-tier league at just 14 years old with Joventut Badalona.
He debuted in the EuroLeague in October 2006, just days after turning 16. Rubio was selected 5th overall in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves and officially moved to the NBA in 2011.
Over a 12-season NBA career, he appeared in 698 regular-season games, establishing himself as one of the league’s flashiest and most effective passing guards playing for the Timberwolves, the Utah Jazz, the Phoenix Suns, and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
As a member of the Spanish national team, in 2008, he won a silver medal at age 17, becoming the youngest player ever in an Olympic basketball final. In the 2016 Rio Olympics, he captured a bronze medal with Spain, and in the 2019 FIBA World Cup, he led Spain to a gold medal and was named the FIBA World Cup tournament MVP.
