Hapoel Maoz Daniel Holon penned 31-year-old American power forward T.J. Holyfield to a short-term contract on Thursday.
The 2.03-meter big arrives in Israel to reinforce a frontcourt depleted by a recent wave of injuries. The former Stephen F. Austin and Texas Tech standout in the NCAA joined a roster led by head coach Predrag Krunic, which features Shahar Amir, Netanel Artzi, Liran Azoulay, Claudell Harris Jr., Sam Iorio, Brandon Johns Jr., Yair Kravitz, Greg Lee III, Lester Medford Jr., Yam Nevo, Ori Ofir, Liad Shmuel, Itai Shnaps, Adama Sanogo, Rivaldo Soares, Drew Thelwell, Idan Weissbach, and Skylar Wicks.
The move marks a return to the Basketball Champions League for Holyfield. He previously made five appearances with German club EWE Baskets Oldenburg in 2021. He brings additional overseas experience after spending last season in Taiwan with the Hsinchu Toplus Lioneers, where he averaged 10.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. Before his stint in the TPBL, Holyfield spent two years in Japan with the Yamagata Wyverns. Back in 2020, he originally started his European career with Kauhajoki Karhu in Finland, and took his talents to Oldenburg from 2021 to 2023.

Holyfield’s arrival comes at a crucial moment for Hapoel Holon during its tenth consecutive Champions League campaign. The Israeli team is looking to bounce back from an opening loss to Cholet Basket in Group F. They face a busy week ahead, starting domestic play in the Winner League Regular Season against Hapoel Midtown Jerusalem at the Toto Arena on Sunday, before traveling to Subotica next Wednesday to face Serbian champions Spartak Office Shoes.
