A new ownership for Asisa Joventut can emerge in the form of 45-year-old Paulius Motiejunas

Asisa Joventut could soon undergo a major shift in ownership, with former chief executive officer of Euroleague Basketball and majority owner of Zalgiris, Paulius Motiejunas, linked to the prominent club, as revealed by insider Xavi Ballesteros on Friday.

The Lithuanian executive seems to be considering acquiring a controlling interest, a move that would open a new era for the Penya. Negotiations are reportedly well advanced to transition power away from Scranton Enterprises. The investment group first entered the fold in 2018 and gradually expanded its stake to approximately 86%.

Motiejunas, 45, was Euroleague CEO from June 2023 to January 2026. He intends to execute the takeover through a project linked to Tesonet, a Lithuanian technology and investment group. The alliance mirrors the setup at the EuroLeague club based in Kaunas, where Motiejunas holds 55% of the shares, and Tesonet controls the remaining 45%. A central pillar of his possible involvement is the Pavello Olimpic de Badalona, and elevating the venue into a substantial source of revenue.

On the floor, the team coached by Dani Miret is navigating the early stretch of the 2026–27 continental and domestic schedules. They currently lead Group H of the Basketball Champions League Regular Season with a 2–0 record alongside a 2–2 start in the Liga Endesa Regular Season.

Joventut’s trajectory might align with a new top-tier continental league, frequently called NBA Europe. Slated to debut at the start of the 2027–28 campaign, this projected 16-team tournament features four open slots. Two berths will be granted to the BCL finalists, while the remaining pair will go to the winners of season-ending qualifying tournaments tied directly to domestic leagues.
