Ventspils accomplished one of the biggest surprises of the round defeating Iberostar Tenerife and got the close win, 73-72 .

Coach Nenad Markovic’s men went into the half holding a slim (36-37) lead, which couldn’t be increased after the break. The reigning champions continued their poor shooting performance in the second period.

Mike Tobey took leadership for Tenerife with 20 points and 6 boards in 22 minutes, but he didn’t receive help from his teammates.

The key: Zakis scored a decisive bucket with 7 seconds remaining that gave Ventspils the win. Richotti had a chance to hit the game winner, but he couldn’t score.

The star: Ronald Zakis led his team with 14 points and 8 rebounds. He also scored two important free throws and the winning basket for the Latvians.
