The Polish team started the new year with beating Besiktas at home on Day 10 of the Basketball Champions League.

Stelmet Zielona Gora ended their five-game losing streak by taking down Group D leader Besiktas Sompo Japan at home 99-96. With this win Polish team improved to a 3-7 record.

With 27 seconds remaining in the game Zielona Gora was up by one (90-89). Przemyslaw Zamojski took the responsibility in his hands as he nailed a triple that pushed his team to the victory.

The hosts were leading through the whole game as they were up 49-44 after the first half. The Turkish team was able to bounce back thanks to improving during third quarter which they won 25-21.

However, when it mattered the most Zielona Gora had all the answers as they were able to close the game in the right way.

The Key: The second unit of Zielona Gora stepped up tonight outscoring their opponents 53-33.

The Stars: The veteran Thomas Kelati led the hosts with 16 points followed by Vladimir Dragicevic who had 14 points and 6 rebounds.

Not enough: D.J. Strawberry had an all-around game with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists, but he couldn’t prevent the loss.

After tonight’s loss, Besiktas is now standing on a 7-3 record.
