Goran Suton paced Estudiantes in their win over Banvit

Estudiantes suffered more than expected after leading by 24 at the half but they are closer to the Round of 16 in the Basketball Champions League.

Estudiantes is close to being a playoff team after beating Banvit 78 – 73. Group C leader fell to a 9-4 record and the Spaniards are just one victory behind. The Turks were defeated for the first time in six games.

The key: Banvit started the game “ice cold” while Estudiantes was “red hot” (22 – 4, 6′) with Goran Suton scoring 14 points in the first quarter.

Saso Filipovski changed the defense and the Turks reduced the deficit to 41 – 25 (17′). Sylven Landesberg led a 10-0 run and Estudiantes breathed again. As it has been happening during the season, Estudiantes collapsed in the third and Banvit made it a 7-point game (54 – 47, 29′).

The star: With the game on the verge, Suton showed up with 11 points. The Croatian finished the game with a double-double (25 points and 12 boards for 34 PIR). Alec Brown added 12 points.

Angelo Caloiaro and Tony Taylor combined for 43 points.
