Iberostar Tenerife is close to the Top 8 in the Basketball Champions League once again. The reigning champions defeated UCAM Murcia on the road 71 – 66 in the Spanish matchup.

Tim Abromaitis led the winners with 13 points while Ferran Bassas added 12 in 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Vitor Benite and Jose Angel Antelo were the only players that reached double figures in scoring for Murcia. The Brazilian dropped a couple of threes in the last minute that gave hope to Ibon Navarro’s team.

The home side reached a 24 – 31 lead with four minutes left in the second quarter but a late reaction put Tenerife back in front at the break (38 – 36). Javi Beiran and Mike Tobey combined for 15 points for the champs without a missed shot.

Then, Tenerife did what Fotis Katsikaris’ teams do: defend. Murcia collapsed scoring just 30 points in the second half. The home side needed an extra effort to score baskets while the guests were really comfortable with a double-digit lead (60 – 50, 33′).
