All that’s left for Luca Banchi to become AEK’s head coach is the signature.

Coach Luca Banchi, who was already close to an agreement with AEK , came to Athens and met today (30/6) with owner-president Makis Angelopoulos in order to resolve the latest details of the deal. The two sides agreed verbally and tomorrow (1/7) it is expected for the contract to be signed and to start planning ahead of the new season.

Luka Banchi will replace Dragan Sakota on the bench as the head coach after signing a two-year deal which will keep him with the club until 2020.

It should also be mentioned that the experienced Italian will have a Greek assistant coach at his side and it is very likely that Ilias Katzouris, who worked with him in Bamberg, will take over this role.

Last season Banchi coached Brose Bamberg in Germany. Throughout his career, the Italian coach had been also at the helm of Olimpia Milano(winning two Serie A titles in 2013 and 2014), Montepaschi Siena and Torino. He will have to live up to high expectations after AEK’s successful season as they won two titles (BCL, Greek Cup) in 2017-18.
