After eight lead changes, Nizhny Novgorod took control of its Day 6 Group A game of the Basketball Champions League with Ventspils in the second quarter. A 13-3 run gave them a 39-29 lead at the end of the first half. Roberts Stelmahers’ team got within a point in the second half, but the visitors ultimately achieved a 80-75 away victory.

Nizhny’s superiority inside, its 37-23 rebound advantage, proved the difference between the two teams on Wednesday night. Also, Kendrick Perry sunk some crucial buckets every time Ventspils attempted to return in the match and finished up with 19 points. Ilya Popov double-doubled with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while in-form Ivan Strebkov added 12 points.

Zoran Lukic’s team second straight win got the Russians to 3-3 and dropped the Latvians to 2-4.
