Venezia found its game in the second half, but needed five extra minutes to beat Fribourg with 96-86 at the Site Sportif Saint-Leonard. The Italians played catch-up in the first half of the Basketball Champions League Group B match, but got the lead with a 14-2 spurt in the third period. However, they didn’t get the knock out and Justin Roberson‘s 3/3 free throws knotted the two teams at 77-77 with 2.4 seconds to go and sent the game to overtime.

Walter De Raffaele’s team showed its class in the extra minutes, built its first three-possession lead and grabbed the “W”. MarQuez Haynes led the way sinking 19 points, while Austin Daye and Stefano Tonut added 14 each. Andre Williamson posted 17 points for the losing side.

The visitors finished the first round of BCL’s group stage at 5-2 and dropped the Swiss champs to 1-6.
