Besiktas keeps Olimpija in check

Besiktas broke Olimpija’s resistance with a strong second quarter and managed to hold on until the end.

Besiktas Sompo Japan recorded a 94-84 home win against Petrol Olimpija on Day 7 of Basketball Champions League.

Samet Geyik led the charge with 18 points while Robin Benzing was right behind with 17 and Ivan Buva scored 14 points. For Olimpija, Jan Span scored 18 in addition to Miha Lapornik and Mirza Begic’s 14 points each.

After a fairly balanced first quarter (27-24), Besiktas took over the control and went on the halftime rest with a big 57-39 lead. Olimpija managed to close the gap to just five points (77-72) early in the fourth but the hosts distanced themselves with a 6-0 run and kept the distance until the end.

Besiktas improved to a 3-4 record in Group D while Olimpija stayed at the bottom with 1-6.
