Two people have been killed and 11 others wounded according to multiple reports in a shooting in the center of the French city of Strasbourg. Meanwhile, the Basketball Champions League game between the local team, SIG Strasbourg, and Slovenian club Petrol Olimpija Ljubljana has been completed, but due to security reasons, the teams and the spectators are instructed by local authorities not to exit the “Rhenus” gym.
“We heard what happened at halftime“, said team center Mustapha Fall. “And of course, it perturbed us. Everyone was asking about this. We have won, it’s good, but there are much more important things in life. This night we are not really thinking about basketball. It’s difficult to stay concentrated but we have a job to do. We have to have maximum concentration, but it’s true that it was difficult“.
Coach Vincent Collet who is also the coach of the French national team added: “Ιt was a very peculiar situation, not only for us but for everyone. And like everyone, we were not really informed about what exactly happened. I understand that we have to stay in the gym to avoid panic in a possible evacuation. My thoughts are with the victims. It’s terrible”.
According to the French journalist, Arnaud Lecomte, in total 5.100 persons are still in the gym.
