Promitheas wasn’t considered the favorite against Tenerife, especially without Rion Brown and Langston Hall on the court, but managed to grab a 69-57 win in the first leg of the two-game series between the two clubs for the Basketball Champion League Round of 16 stage. Three-point shooting was the difference in Wednesday’s matchup at Patras.

Makis Giatras‘ side became the fourth Greek team in the BCL playoffs, but can be optimistic on its chances for a quarterfinals spot as well. Tony Meier paved the way with 18 points in the first half and ended up with 22. The 28-year-old American sank 8/10 inside the rainbow including 4/4 beyond the arc. Nikos Gkikas added 14 points and Octavius Ellis put up a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Colton Iverson was the lone bright spot for Txus Vidorreta’s side. The 29-year-old American center kept the 2017 Champions’ hopes alive with 16 points. The visitors never found their outside touch finishing with 3/20, but cut down their opponents’ percentage from 80% to 42.3% in the second half.
