Bamberg and Banvit never really got going at the Brose Arena, but Federico Perego’s team defeated the Turkish club, 81-79, in the Basketball Champion League Round of 16 Gameday 1 matchup. However, the visitors must be content with the result in Germany knowing home advantage will be theirs next week.

Only one German team has advanced through five BCL series against Turkish clubs and Bamberg didn’t make its case on Wednesday. Tyrese Rice scored a game-high 20 points and Elias Harris followed with 19 points, but the win by two-point margin might not be enough in Bandirma.

Gary Neal only made 8/22 from the field, but also put up a game-high 20 points. Alex Perez added 17 and Jordan Morgan notched a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double for Hakan Demir’s side. The visitors holding their opponents to 3/20 from three-point range in Freak City was the decisive factor of the match.
