Lester Medford put on a strong performance as VEF Riga grabbed an 80-74 home win against Mornar Bar in Basketball Champions League Group C.
Medford scored 21 points while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing five assists. Ron Curry and Kristijan Krajina added 13 points each.
For Mornar, Jacob Pullen and Milko Bjelica banked 18 points each followed by Antabia Waller with 14.
Mornar had a better start (23-20) and managed to stay ahead by halftime (42-40). However, Riga came out of the locker rooms ready to turn the tables and they did. The Latvian team led 61-58 at the end of the third and didn’t let go of the lead until the end.
Mornar made it a tie at 74 with 47 seconds left but Medford made four out of Riga’s next six straight points to end the game in their favor.
