San Pablo Burgos faced an 11-point deficit early in the second half, but rebounded effectively for the 90-76 victory against Telenet Giants Antwerp on Wednesday in Basketball Champions League Group B opening week action. The contest marked the Spanish team’s first ever European club competition match.

Serbian center Goran Huskic made all of his six two-pointers and all of his seven free throws for the game-high 19 points. The tilt at the Pabellon Multiusos Coliseum Burgos was generally contested in the paint with 82 points made inside, 46 from the visitors and 36 from the winning side.

Earl Clark went for 15 points, Bruno Fitipaldo added 14 to go along with his 8 dimes and Vitor Benite got to 14 points as well with clutch buckets down the stretch. Effective team defense in the second half also aided Joan Penarroya’s side to nail the 1-0 BCL W-L tally.

Christophe Beghin’s team fell to 0-1 in spite of its 57-46 lead early in the third quarter. Vincent Kesteloot, 24, finished with a team-high 16 points but was not enough for the “W”. Owen Klassen followed with 11 points and Luka Rupnik put up 10.
