The news of Borislav Stankovic passing away struck the basketball world, especially those who knew him personally and worked with him fr decades. As is the case with another legend in Duda Ivkovic.
“He deserved to go to a better time than this, let’s see this man off how he deserves,” Ivkovic told Zurnal.
The coach quickly remembered one of their recent encounters, at the Acropolis Cup in Greece: “Last year, at the Acropolis Cup in Athens, George Vassilakopoulos – Greek Basketball Federation President – tells me that Bora Stankovic is also there. I immediately went to say hello. His sight no longer served him. But he was there. Although he couldn’t see the players, he was there to feel the floor, the crowd, to hear the ball. Incredible love and life dedicated to basketball.”
Ivkovic also mentioned that Stankovic might have changed things in basketball for the better had he stayed at the head of FIBA longer: “If Bora had remained at the helm of FIBA, I’m sure we would never have gotten into this state of division in basketball as we have it now.”
