After concluding his last European season with Fenerbahce by winning the BSL against Anadolu Efes, Sasha Djordjevic got replaced by Dimitris Itoudis.

Then, he went on to become the newest national team head coach for China. Now, the Serbian legendary playmaker has talked in an interview about the potential of his team.

“Today I won’t mention which player specifically, but the players selected for the national team must first understand the weight their jersey represents, which is the highest honor a player can receive. They must have the professionalism and the right attitude”, he first said.

Then, Sasha Djordjevic explained his criteria for selection. “I always believe that building a national team does not necessarily require the 12 best individuals, but 12 players who can integrate into the team to the greatest extent and maximize the competitiveness of the team. This is also the way I formed the Chinese men’s basketball team”, he added.

Finally, he commented on his relationship with Chinese legend Yao Ming. “We’ve spent a lot of time together and he’s helped me understand the system and the players here. I want to use his wisdom to work, listen to his views, and help him achieve his goal of achieving good results”, he said about the CBA’s chairman.

“I don’t think I need to say more about Yao Ming’s status in the international basketball world. He was a huge part of the reason for taking the job. Having him around has been invaluable to me and my work”, he added, while saying that “for next year’s World Cup there should be no upper limit” on their goals.
