A first for the Executive Committee of FIBA. The members will gather in Indianapolis on February 18, placed among additional events building around the 2024 NBA All-Star Game. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is expected to attend.

FIBA detailed the meeting on Wednesday.

Per FIBA: “Strengthening its unique collaboration with the NBA, FIBA’s Executive Committee is set to convene for the first time during the NBA All-Star 2024 weekend.

The 73rd edition of this celebrated mid-season showcase will take place in the heartland of American basketball, Indianapolis, Indiana, on February 18. On the same day, FIBA’s 11-member Executive Committee will gather with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver invited as a special guest.

This meeting holds significance as it underscores the close ties between FIBA and the NBA, built over years of collaborative efforts on various projects and initiatives. The partnership extends to ventures such as the Basketball Africa League (BAL), now entering its fourth season, which tips off in March, Basketball Without Borders, which will take place over the NBA All-Star weekend through the men’s BWB Global Camp, the Jr. NBA also present during the weekend, and numerous other activities.

Notably, at this year’s All-Star weekend, the NBA will, for the first time, showcase the state-of-the-art ABS GlassFloor, which made its debut at the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup last year. The LED court will be used during various All-Star events over the three days.

Mark Tatum, NBA Deputy Commissioner and FIBA Central Board member, is also one of the many active members of the FIBA Executive Committee and will be at the February 18 meeting. Tatum plays an integral role in the NBA’s collaboration with FIBA and has done so since 2014.”
