FIP and Legabasket met yesterday in Rome, as the president of italian basketball federation Giovanni Petrucci has a meeting with the new president of Legabasket Egidio Bianchi in the presence of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) secretary genral Roberto Fabbricini and also representatives of Trento, Torino and Virtus Bologna.

There will be an other meeting on Friday between CONI, FIP, Legabasket and the three teams which have signed to play in Eurocup for the next three seasons, Reggio Emilia, Sassari and Trento. According to the press release “the meeting had been called, by all, a shared solution to continue a pathway to re-establish a constructive and purposeful relationship between FIP and Legabasket”.

The question is if those three teams are willing to back down from their deal to play in the Eurocup, which is the cause for the possible ban of the Italian national team from Eurobasket 2017. According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Petrucci stated that “FIP will act according to FIBA rules and one thing is for sure: The pre-Olympic tournament will be held in Torino”.
