The president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco, talked about the possible ban of the Spanish national team from the Rio Olympics.

Blanco believes that the conflict between FIBA and Euroleague should not affect the national teams: “I defend the whole sport structure, even the IOC and all the Federations. But if you afiliate to a federation, you have to follow the rules. Clubs are into their own right to play or not (ed.note: in Euroleague or FIBA), but this is an issue of them, not an issue of the federations, or of the olympic movement. So they should not be punished. There’s an easy solution. I defend FIBA, but clubs are the base of sport and they have to be listened”.

On the same matter, FIBA Executive director Europe Kamil Novak, said today in an interview published at the Italian newspaper “Corriere Della Sera” when asked if Spain can be left out of Rio: “It is possible but decision is not up to me. It would be a tough decision”
