Following a request of ULEB (Union of European Basketball Leagues), the FIBA Central Board has agreed to extend the final date of the 2019-20 domestic league season playoffs from June 8, 2020, to June 12, 2020, per FIBA’s announcement.

Considering the earlier-than-usual dates of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (July 24-August 9, 2020), the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQTs) will be organized in accordance with the dates authorized by the International Olympic Committee, from June 23-28, 2020. ULEB’s request sought to accommodate the final days of playoff series, in particular for leagues featuring 18 clubs.

The FIBA Central Board acknowledged the efforts made by the domestic leagues in an ever-challenging environment. Following constructive discussions between Federations and Leagues over the last three months, FIBA confirmed that, exceptionally, players involved in their domestic league playoffs until June 12, 2020, will be released to their national teams 10 days before the OQTs. For all other players, the regular 14-day preparation period for the OQTs – where the last four tickets for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will be decided – shall apply.
