Bruce Brett Weber, head coach of the USA U19 National Team and assistant coach Michael Griffith Hopkins visited the Giannakis Academy in Crete and caught up with the participants, as well as with Panagiotis Giannakis, the last coach to beat Team USA with the Greek national team back in 2006.

“It was a wonderful experience. We met with a legend of Greek basketball, Panagiotis Giannakis, we talked about the evolution of the game and I had the chance to show some techniques to the participants, such as shooting. The Giannakis Academy deserves much credit”, said Weber. “The kids asked us how far could Team USA go in the U19 tournament, so I said we will do our best. We are in a highly competitive competition.”

“It’s a huge honor for all of us”, mentioned Panagiotis Giannakis. “I personally thank coaches Weber and Hopkins for their presence at the Academy”.

The Giannakis Academy in Crete ends on July 6, while it will continue in Athens from July 8 to 13 and Chalkidiki from August 4 to 10.
