Interviewed by La Giornata Tipo, the #1 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft Paolo Banchero discussed his possible future with the Italian national team, now that Gianmarco Pozzecco’s team officially qualified for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Paolo Banchero kept his eyes open to Italy’s recent successes. “I saw that they qualified for the World Cup. It’s a huge achievement and I’m very happy about it. The fact that all of you look up to me makes me feel grateful. Having so many fans and being contacted on social media is absolutely exciting. You guys are showing love and support constantly: it really urges me to move on”, he said.

He still doesn’t know if he will join Nicolò Melli, Simone Fontecchio, and their teammates in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. “I have to talk to my team about it, with my agent, my family. It would be a great opportunity, I can’t deny it, but there’s still time to go. I have to think about it, I will value it day by day”, he added.

Paolo Banchero posed with the Italian flag during the 2022-23 Orlando Magic Media Day and has previously said that he would like to join Italy in International competitions.

He’s currently averaging 23.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game in his first NBA Regular Season.
