Before playing the last game of the Acropolis Tournament against Italy, it was announced that Greece wouldn’t have Dimitris Agravanis, who left the Greek squad ahead of time.
After the 74-70 loss against Gianmarco Pozzecco’s team, the Greek national team head coach Dimitris Itoudis spoke to the press to address the situation. “Agravanis put himself out of the national team. Someone places himself in and someone outside of the national team. I can’t share the details. I have contacted 22 athletes, someone says I’m here, someone says no“, Fenerbahce‘s leader stated.
“The athletes are here because they want to defend the colors of the national team. Not with a gun to their temple. It was in the training plan that Agravanis and Kalaitzakis would be left out of the squad today. We are waiting for the final decisions with training and friendlies“, he also added.

After Dimitris Itoudis’ words, the former Panathinaikos player responded through social media. “Stop the lies, tell about your curses in Serbian”, Dimitris Agravanis stated on Instagram.
The 28-year-old experienced player never wore the Greek national team jerseys at the FIBA World Cup, but was called up by Dimitris Itoudis close to EuroBasket 2022, averaging 6.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game last year’s International competition.
