The Slovenian national team cut forward Aljaz Kunc and American-born big man Jordan Morgan to finalize the 12-man roster that will compete in the 2023 FIBA World Cup ten days before the tournament tips off.

Morgan’s cut means that center Mike Tobey will be the naturalized player of the Slovenian national team for a third straight year. The new Crvena Zvezda player also joined Slovenia in the 2021 Olympic Games and the 2022 EuroBasket.

Slovenia’s World Cup squad is the following: Jaka Blazic, Jakob Cebasek, Ziga Dimec, Luka Doncic, Zoran Dragic, Gregor Glas, Gregor Hrovat, , Aleksey Nikolic, Bine Prepelic, Klemen Prepelic, Ziga Samar and Mike Tobey.

Slovenia will begin the World Cup in Group F that is held in Okinawa, Japan. They will face Georgia, Venezuela and Cape Verde as the top two teams will advance to the next round.

During training camp, Slovenia played six games against China, Montenegro, Greece (twice), Spain and USA, registering losses in the last four. Denver Nuggets forward Vlatko Cancar tore his ACL in the second game vs. Greece while Doncic didn’t play vs. USA for precautionary reasons.
