Fontecchio leads Italy past Brazil in FIBA Solidarity Cup

Brazil couldn’t do much against Simone Fontecchio in the game vs. Italy.

Simone Fontecchio scored 26 points as Italy defeated Brazil 93 – 87 in a game for the FIBA Solidarity Cup exhibition tournament that is held in Shenzen, China ahead of the World Championship. This was the sixth win for Italy over six preparation matches so far this summer.

Stefano Tonut had 16 points for Italy. Achille Polonara, Marco Spissu and Giampaolo Ricci dropped 11 points apiece in a comeback win for their team since Brazil led 44 – 38 at halftime.

Lucas Diaz led Brazil with 18 points plus six rebounds. Bruno Caboclo had 14 points and six rebounds, Leonardo Meindl scored 14, Yago dos Santos added 12 points and Raul Neto contributed 11 points.

The FIBA Solidarity Cup also included Serbia and New Zealand apart from hosts China. The game between Serbia and China is also held Sunday (20/8) while Italy faces New Zealand and Serbia plays vs. Brazil Monday (21/8).
