MANILA, Philippines – The 2023 FIBA World Cup opened in Manila with Italy beating Angola 81-67. However, that wasn’t a simple task for the Azzurri, who had to go against a team that never surrendered, dragged by Childe Dundao.

Playing for the Angolan club Petro de Luanda, the 25-year-old had never been on such a huge stage in his career before tonight’s game. However, against Italy he proved to be fearless, dropping 19 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists to help his team. Moreover, he was the only one converting shots from deep (4/8), as his teammates went 0/20 from the three-point line.

“We tried to compete and we lost it. We need to work hard ahead of the remaining games and we will fight again. I think we need to improve our game because we are a young team. That’s all I can say”, he commented in the mixed zone after his World Cup debut.
