Defending champions Spain defeated Iran to complete a perfect first phase of the competition

Spain defeated Iran 85-65 in the last game of Group H to finish the first phase of the 2023 FIBA World Cup undefeated. The “La Roja” will face Latvia and Canada in the next round of the competition.

Juancho Hernangomez led the efforts of the Spanish side with 21 points and five rebounds over 20:04 minutes. His brother Willy contributed 16 points plus nine rebounds, and Santi Aldama provided 11 points and eight boards.

Mohammad Amini dropped 19 points for Iran, and Bernam Yahkhali had 12 points and seven assists.

Interestingly, Iran won the first quarter 17-16, but after that, it was all Spain. Sergio Scariolo’s team took control in the second period and never let go, recording another convincing victory.

Spain is advancing to the second phase alongside Brazil from Group G, while Iran and Ivory Coast will move to the classification round in a group with France and Lebanon.
