MANILA, Philippines – The 2023 FIBA World Cup has ended for the Dominican Republic, which lost 112-79 against Serbia and didn’t get a ticket for the Quarter-Finals. Karl-Anthony Towns concluded his adventure with 25 points and 7 rebounds.

Emotionally touched, the 27-year-old Dominican Republic superstar commented on what this tournament meant for him in the mixed zone. “This is some of the most fun basketball I’ve ever played. I had some of the most joy playing with these guys. Coming here, the world expected us to fall flat in our faces, not being a contender and not winning games. Being one of those easy opponents to face, but we didn’t do that at all. We came out here and I hope we made our country proud with the way we competed. The way we fought. And I think the biggest word is we made our country believe”, he first said.

“Remind me how fun it was when I played when I was young. Things were different when I was playing for this country 13 years ago, for our country. It was a different situation for me, I was a bench player with no minutes. But I was always chanting so hard, having so much pride in putting this jersey on. You never know how I was gonna go. I’m just so blessed and honored that my mum gave me a bloodline and culture. To be able to put this name on my chest, meant the world to me. I’m blessed, Imma keep my head up. The Dominican Republic means the world to me”, Karl-Anthony Towns added.

The Minnesota Timberwolves superstar ended his 2023 FIBA World Cup with 24.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game, getting three double-doubles in his five encounters for the Dominican Republic.
