The Dominican Republic’s basketball community is in mourning after the sudden death of their team’s physiotherapist, Bladimir Regalado.
He suffered a fatal cardiac arrest during his journey back from the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup in the Philippines. The Dominican Republic’s basketball federation confirmed the sad news.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Bladimir Regalado, a physiotherapist for our National Team, upon his return from the FIBA World Cup 2023 in the Philippines. Our deepest condolences to your family. Rest in peace, Bladimir,” per the official statement.
Regalado’s untimely death cast a shadow over the Dominican Republic’s World Cup journey, as they finished 14th after a crucial loss to Serbia.
