Manila, Philippines – Germany’s hot shooting and strength on the offensive glass proved too much for the United States in the semifinals of the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Germany upset the U.S. 113-111 on Friday and advanced to the Finals where it will play Serbia for gold on Sunday.
The hero of the game was Andreas Obst who had 24 points and six assists for Germany, which started the game 8 for 10 from the field and outscored the USA 35-24 during the third quarter.
“I am super happy. We put a lot of work into this. We are ready for the next opponent” Obst said after the game.
It was apparent that Obst was in the scouting reports, but that did not help Team USA.
“I know my strengths. I figured that I was on the scouting reports. I can shoot, I can drive. I can create space“.
He added that Germany knew where the weakness was for Team USA.
“We learned for our game in Abu Dabi against them. We also watched a bit against Lithuania, but we stayed with our game plan. We know what their weaknesses are“.
