Doncic reaffirmed his intent to continue playing for Slovenia as long as he isn’t dealing with a major injury. The next chance for him to do so will be next summer when Slovenia competes in the Olympic qualifiers

Following Slovenia’s 100-84 loss to Lithuania on Thursday, per Sports Illustrated Doncic mentioned to reporters that his thigh is “not okay,” but this will not change the way he approaches his dedication to the Slovenian national team.

“I do not know what to say,” Doncic said.

“It’s not okay. At the same time, I have to prepare for one more game, and then for a whole season in the NBA.”

Doncic, however, will always answer the call of the Slovenian national team.

“I play no matter what, even in the Olympic qualifiers, if only I’m healthy,” Doncic explained, repeating once more that playing for the national team is something really special for him.

Before even going to the NBA, Doncic won the Eurobasket title in 2017 with Slovenia, being the side-kick of Goran Dragic at the time on a memorable run, beating Serbia in the final, which at the time was led by Bogdan Bogdanovic and was missing Nikola Jokic, as it happened in this year’s FIBA World Cup.

Since then, Doncic has emerged as the leader of the Slovenian national team, having a similar role with the one he got in Dallas.
