The draw for the Qualifiers of the FIBA World Cup 2027, across all continents, will take place in ALHAZM in Doha on Tuesday.
FIBA recently shared draw principles, setting up a process to shape the Qualifiers picture. The draw will be streamed across several platforms, including the official YouTube channel of the international basketball federation.

Per the press release: “With excitement building ahead of the eagerly anticipated FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Qualifiers Draw, the principles which will determine the mapping out of the ‘Road to Qatar’ have been confirmed.
The draw will take place on May 13 at ALHAZM in Doha at 18:30 (local), 17:30 (CET), and will be performed by FIBA Global Ambassador Carmelo Anthony.
The draw will be available to watch live here and on the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 and FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African, Americas, Asian and European Qualifiers websites and on the FIBA YouTube channel.
Here are the Draw Principles for each of the four FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
African Qualifiers Draw Principles
- The 16 teams have been placed into 8 pots based on the FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by NIKE.
- Pots 1, 4, 5 and 8 will feed groups A and B. Pots 2, 3, 6 and 7 will feed groups C and D.
- Rwanda in Pot 7 will be drawn in the opposite side of the bracket to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
- The top 3 teams from each group will advance to the Second Round and make up Groups E and F.
Americas Qualifiers Draw Principles
- The 16 teams have been placed into 8 pots based on a combination of geographical principles and the FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by NIKE.
- The 8 teams from North and Central America will be in four dedicated pots, as will 8 teams from South America.
- Pots 1, 3, 5 and 7 will feed groups A and B. Pots 2, 4, 6 and 8 will feed groups C and D.
- The top 3 teams from each group will advance to the Second Round and make up Groups E and F.
Asian Qualifiers Draw Principles
- The 16 teams have been placed into 8 pots based on a combination of geographical principles and the FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by NIKE.
- The 8 teams from East Asia and Oceania will go into four dedicated pots – as will 8 teams from Central and West Asia.
- Pots 1, 3, 5 and 7 will feed groups A and B. Pots 2, 4, 6 and 8 will feed groups C and D.
- Qatar as host, will qualify automatically to the Second Round and then to the World Cup.
- The top 3 teams from each group (the best 2 placed teams in Qatar’s group) will advance to the Second Round and make up Groups E and F.
European Qualifiers Draw Principles
- The 32 teams have been placed into 8 pots based on the FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by NIKE.
- Pots 1, 4, 5 and 8 will feed groups A, C, E and G. Pots 2, 3, 6 and 7 will feed groups B, D, F and H.
- Cyprus from pot 8 can not be drawn in the same group as Türkiye from pot 4.
- The top 3 teams from each group will advance to the Second Round and make up Groups I, J, K and L.

The next edition of the quadrennial international tournament is scheduled for the offseason between the 2026-27 and 2027-28 winter schedules. It will be hosted in Qatar from August 27 to September 12.
