Serbia head coach Dusan Alimpijevic has announced an 18-man preliminary roster for the upcoming June-July FIBA World Cup Qualifying window, headlined by the return of three NBA players, including Nikola Jokic.
The three-time NBA MVP is included in the squad alongside Miami Heat forward Nikola Jovic and Washington Wizards big man Tristan Vukcevic.
Jokic’s availability had been one of the biggest questions surrounding Serbia ahead of the summer, but the Denver Nuggets superstar is now officially part of the roster for the final two games of the first qualification phase.
Several EuroLeague players are also among the candidates, including Vasilije Micic of Hapoel Tel Aviv, Dubai BC guard Aleksa Avramovic, Partizan wing Arian Lakic, and Crvena zvezda quartet Ognjen Dobric, Nikola Djurisic, Dejan Davidovac and Stefan Miljenovic.
The roster additionally features experienced names such as Nemanja Dangubic, Dusan Ristic and Stefan Momirov, while Jovan Novak, Filip Barna, Nikola Tanaskovic, Strahinja Gavrilovic and Uros Plavsic are also included.
Serbia will begin preparations on June 22 and will play a closed-door friendly against Czechia in Belgrade on June 27.
Alimpijevic’s team will then conclude the first phase of the World Cup Qualifiers with two games: an away matchup against Switzerland on July 2 and a home clash with Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 6.
