Head coach Chus Mateo named the new roster for the senior national team of Spain, ahead of the next challenges in the FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers.

Announced on Wednesday at Iberia’s headquarters in Madrid alongside FEB president Elisa Aguilar, the 15-player squad blends a youthful new generation with elite international experience.

Most notably, the lineup features all five of Spain’s active NBA players, including Santi Aldama, Hugo Gonzalez, Sergio de Larrea, Aday Mara, and Baba Miller. While 20-year-old Gonzalez previously appeared in the July FIBA window, both 21-year-old Mara and 22-year-old Miller are poised to make their official debuts for the senior selection during this upcoming stretch.

The remaining selections are heavily fortified by a core of returning talent. The contingent includes Izan Almansa, Dario Brizuela, Alvaro Cardenas, Alberto Diaz, Juancho Hernangomez, Willy Hernangomez, Joel Parra, Jaime Pradilla, Mario Saint-Supery, and Santi Yusta. This veteran group boasts six 2022 European Champions, including Willy Hernangomez designated to captain the crew. Demonstrating continuity, nine of these ten athletes also participated in the July window, with Juancho Hernangomez making his return.

Spain is tasked on maintinaing strong momentum on the road to Qatar. After wrapping up the first round of Group A with a dominant 5–1 record, La Familia now starts a new six-game schedule at the top of Group I, sitting comfortably two games clear of the elimination zone. The Spanish squad will face Portugal in Zaragoza on August 28, before traveling to Athens to play Greece on August 31.
