Almost every non American player of the NBA champions San Antonio Spurs will represent his country in the upcoming FIBA World Cup, most notably Manu Ginobili who announced his decision recently. However, the leader of France and reigning European champion Tony Parker will be missing.

During the NBA finals, Parker talked to Greek channel OTE TV and the show “pick and roll” about his decision to not play in the upcoming FIBA World Cup and also about his return to the national team after this break: “I am not going to participate, cause I have been playing a lot of basketball the last four years, in two NBA finals and two European championships finals and the Olympics. It’s been a lot of basketball and for my body it’s better if I rest this summer and I will be back for 2015 and for 2016, the Olympics”.

Parker also spoke about his good friend and former Euroleague MVP Vasilis Spanoulis who was routing for him and the Spurs to win the title: “We have been texting, he is a very good friend and he wished me luck for the finals, so I will try to win it”. And of course, he finally did.
