Spain punched its FIBA World Cup ticket by beating Ukraine 72-68 and now joins Greece, Germany, Czech Republic and Lithuania and France that previously qualified as well.
Jaime Fernandez led the Spanish with his 17-point performance, while Quino Colom and Sebas Saiz scored 12 points each in this qualification victory.
Spain had possession and a 70-66 lead with 20 seconds left, but committed a turnover and then an unsportsmanlike foul, giving Ukraine a golden opportunity to steal the victory, though Volodymyr Herun couldn’t get a wide-open triple to fall in a nerve-wracking finish!
