Russia continued its preparation for the World Cup with a win over Venezuela.

Russia defeated Venezuela 69 – 54 in the first game of the international “Verona Cup” preparation tournament held in Italy.

Andrey Vorontsevich scored 16 points, Vitaly Fridzon dropped 14 points while Nikita Kurbanov had 10 points for the Russian team that was without star Alexey Shved. Sergey Bazarevitch’s players took a nine-point lead at halftime, 32 – 23 and kept retaining control of the game after the break.

Gregory Vargas posted 13 games for Venezuela.

Russia will face Italy on Friday while Venezuela plays Senegal.
