Côte d’Ivoire players have gone on a strike a few days ahead of China’s FIBA World Cup.

As sport-ivoire.ci mentions, the reason for the strike is that the Ivorian Federation owes its players previously agreed on bonuses, while they have to cover up for their medicals on their own.

Captain Guy Landry Edi confirmed the strike per the Ivorian website. “We haven’t received any bonus since the beginning of the training a month ago. The Federation promised that we would receive half of the bonuses, but the GM came to Madrid and we still weren’t paid. We request to receive our debts both for the preparation and the World Cup”, he mentioned.

As he revealed, there are three injured players in the roster, that cannot afford their treatment.

Cote d’Ivoire face Poland, Venezuela and hosts China in the Group Stage of FIBA World Cup, though their chances are at stake due to the current situation.
