Team USA and Spain are set to clash on Friday, August 16, at the Honda Center in Anaheim as part of the preparations for the 2019 FIBA World Cup. Spain coach Sergio Scariolo noted it’s the best possible test for his squad as they will play against the best:
“We play against the best team in the competition, which means that they will put us through the maximum possible difficulties at this point. Obviously, we want to compete against the best, with broader technical-tactical baggage although still in need of more repetition and consolidation within our habits”, he said, per MARCA.
Scariolo noted that they will worry about making themselves better but still try to leave a good impression: “It will be another stage of our preparation, in which we will not prepare the game specifically but we will almost exclusively worry about our things. Of course, we have to try to give a good image, as we always try to do in each game.”
He also added that he’s interested in seeing how his squad fairs against a “very physical team, with a lot of athletic ability and which can force you to make many mistakes and many losses.”
