Svetislav Pesic has been one of the most accomplished coaches in basketball history and he had some success in international competitions as well. He won three gold medals with Yugoslavia (EuroBasket 1993, 2001; World Cup 2002).

The 69-year-old believes this will be one of the strongest World Cups yet and one of the reasons is that basketball outside the US has improved, especially in Europe:

“I expect one of the strongest World Cups so far. Basketball outside the NBA has made fantastic progress. Not just in Europe. But especially in Europe. Today, the best basketball is played in the Euroleague. That’s my opinion, nobody can forbid me to say it, and I can argumentatively explain that”, Pesic told Mozzart Sport.

He also has high hopes for the Serbian national team, no matter who they face: “We will have a pretty good national team in China. Our great advantage is that we have continuity and tremendous experience. We have played several finals in recent years. The players have shown that they can play with anyone, even Americans. At the Olympics, we had a group win in our hands. So, we have a chance, but first we need to get to that game”
