The announcement that Turgay Demirel is stepping down from the position of the Turkish Basketball Federation after 23 years of service and six elections is not the end of the road for the president of FIBA Europe. It may also prove to be a new beggining.

Under his guidance Turkish basketball thrived and now his role is expected to be instrumental in the FIBA move for “remodeling” European club competitions. As he stated: “It has been a privilege to lead this Federation since 1992, and I am immensely proud of the many unprecedented accomplishments of Turkish Basketball that I have been a part of. I am excited to continue my work as FIBA Europe President and FIBA Vice President to grow our sport in Europe and around the world.”
